Penn Station is one of the busiest transportation hubs in New York City, as the other two major ones are Grand Central and Port Authority Bus Terminal. It’s located right by Madison Square Garden on 8th Avenue. It’s always bustling with people and foot traffic will only increase with new developments currently being built in the surrounding area (hello indoor pickleball courts!).
When you’re traveling, you won’t always have time to figure out what or where to eat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it shouldn’t be skipped. Not to worry though—I’ve got you covered with these 10 Breakfast Restaurants Near Penn Station NYC! Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a more substantial meal, these are the best breakfast spots in the area!
Breakfast Restaurants Near Penn Station NYC
1. Tick Tock Diner
Dubbed the “Largest Diner in New York City”, Tick Tock Diner has an extensive menu filled with everything from traditional American cuisine to TexMex. It’s open 24 hours, so if you’re there at 5am, people won’t know if you’re having a late night or early morning!
The dining room is pretty spacious; the decor was fitting the theme of retro diner. From their Breakfast All Day menu, I got The Chicken and the Egg Sandwich ($14.95), which had crunchy fried chicken, fried egg, crispy bacon (but I asked to leave it off), tomato, and cheddar cheese all on a brioche bun. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp and seasoned. I loved the brioche bun because its softness was such a stark contrast to the crunchy chicken. I was definitely satisfied after demolishing the sandwich.
My friend got the Classic Eggs Benedict ($14.95). He said that their hollandaise sauce was creamy and not too heavy. In his words: “yeah, solid eggs benny”.
Their second location is in Clifton, New Jersey—perfect for New Jerseyians who don’t want to venture into the city for a delicious breakfast! Whether you try Tick Tock Diner in NJ or NY, you’re sure to leave with your stomachs full.

2. Liberty Bagels Midtown
When in New York, you NEED to grab a bagel for breakfast—no excuses. Liberty Bagels is a solid chain for kettle-boiled bagels, as it was the first bagel shop I tried my first time in the city. Bagels can get pretty expensive at specialty stores, but everything has a reasonable price here.
I got the French Toast Bagel ($2.75) with Cinnamon Walnut Raisin Cream Cheese, while my friend got the Classic Nova Special ($14). It was a bagel with lox, scallion cream cheese, capers, and tomato. The bagel I got satisfied my sweet tooth that day, as it was the perfect amount of sweetness without verging into dessert territory. I loved the addition of walnuts and raisins in the cream cheese because it added texture to an otherwise one-note spread.
Another location is on 5th Avenue, which makes it convenient to stop by for a bagel before going on a short walk to Central Park! Liberty Bagels is definitely a Midtown fan favorite, so make sure to stop by if you’re ever in the Times Square area!
📍260 W 35th St, New York, NY 10001
3. Friedman’s
If you find yourself in Herald Square, Friedman’s is the perfect place to go for a weekend brunch; it’s a family-owned business that is walk-in only. This is one of the best places to take a large group of people because there’s something for everyone. The menu features a lot of gluten-free options, as they’re even serving gluten-free beer!
I ordered the Berry French Toast ($18), which was light, fluffy, and everything I wanted in a french toast dish. They have decently generous portions, as my order came with 4 slices of bread. I’ve been to places where I only get one piece of toast, so I was ecstatic when I saw many pieces were on the plate.
Friedman’s also has a lot of unique craft cocktails ($15) like an Apple Cider Bellini or Elderflower Spritz. Boozy brunch anyone??
Overall, Friedman’s has good food AND drinks—the two elements needed for a great brunch experience.
📍132 W 31st St New York, NY 10001
4. Culture Espresso
Culture Espresso is an independent and locally-owned coffee shop with a few locations in West Manhattan. They don’t serve full meals here, but I’d be remiss to not mention one of the most popular spots in the Penn Station area. Some people might argue that a coffee and pastry doesn’t suffice as a real breakfast, but respectfully, I would have to disagree. Sometimes you just want something simple.
The cookies here are definitely fan favorites; they’re award-winning and consistently featured on lists of the “Best Chocolate Chip Cookie” in NYC. Their chocolate chip cookie ($4.50) is crunchy on the outside, but chewy on the inside. I also taste notes of brown butter or toffee, which just elevates the whole thing. While their CCC is a solid cookie, my favorite would have to be their corn cookie ($4.50). It’s like cornbread in cookie form, but sweeter and much more delicious! These cookies, when paired with a black coffee ($3.75) were chef’s kiss!
I came in the early morning and still had to wait in a small line, so keep that in mind if you’re in a hurry. Highly recommend coming to Culture Espresso whenever you get a chance (it doesn’t have to be just for breakfast)!
📍72 W 38th St New York, NY 10018
5. Black Fox Coffee Co.
Black Fox Coffee Co. is located in the Manhattan West plaza, which is just a short walk from Penn Station. Manhattan West has such great restaurants like Zou Zou’s and Ci Siamo, but it also has its share of cute shops like Black Fox Coffee Co.
The shop is inside a hotel, but there are tables and seats outside in the plaza. My friend is currently in medical school and she thought it was a great spot to do some light studying, as she was able to crank out a good few hours of note-taking here! She ordered the Vanilla Date Latte ($7.5) and let me have a sip. The addition of the dates really brought out a natural, more nuanced flavor to the drink. Dates are nature’s candy… It struck a perfect balance because it wasn’t overly sweet.
There were also curated pastries in the glass case that are sourced from local bakeries. I do think their chocolate chip cookies are baked in house though. Come here for your morning pick-me-up bevy!

6. Daily Provisions
Daily Provision calls themselves “your neighborhood kitchen” and I can’t think of a more fitting description! They’re a casual eatery offering up all-day fare tailored to foods commonly served at each meal: BECs for breakfast, sandwiches and salads for lunch, and roasted chicken for dinner.
I got an Egg & Cheese Sandwich ($6.50), which was on a poppy bagel. The egg had a runny yolk and the cheese was melty and gooey. It was such a simple sandwich (that I could’ve made on my own, let’s be honest), but it really hit the spot.
They’re also known for their crullers, which are deep-fried pastries that are twisted and sprinkled with sugar or glazed. I got their Maple Cruller ($5.95) and it made my taste buds sing. It was perfectly fried—crunchy on the outside, but pillowy on the inside—with a maple glaze on top. It reminded me of an elevated maple doughnut (which are my favorite doughnuts).
This is the perfect place to grab a breakfast sandwich or pastry before heading over to the Westside Highway for a Sunday morning walk!
📍440 W 33rd St Suite 90, New York, NY 10001
7. Maman
I’ve raved about Maman before as a great coffee shop, but they also serve salads and sandwiches alongside their delicious pastries. You can find Petite Maman in the Food Hall inside Moynihan Train Hall, which is another station just an avenue over from Penn. The Food Hall has a variety of vendors like Jamba Juice, Magnolia Bakery (famous for their banana pudding!), and Burger Joint NY. Moynihan is newly built, so everything is relatively new—it definitely puts Penn Station to shame…
I’d recommend any of Maman’s pastries for anyone who wants a sweet treat for breakfast. If not, their Daily Quiche ($10) or Andrea’s Everything Croissant Sandwich ($13) are good savory options that are also quite filling. Maman also has lots of great drinks that you can grab to go along with your meal. My go-to drink here is their Honey Lavender Latte ($6) because I really love how well the floral flavor of lavender pairs well with the boldness of the espresso. I’ll definitely have to try the Lavender Hot Chocolate ($5) next time.
Such a solid spot for New Yorkers and tourists alike to grab a bite before a train ride!
📍441 8th Ave, Food Hall Concourse Level, Moynihan Station, New York, NY 10001
8. Andrews NYC Diner
Andrews NYC Diner has been owned and operated by the same family since 1964. It was originally a donut shop, but the owners turned it into a bakery and cafe when it first opened. Now, it’s become a NYC diner! It’s basically a historical landmark at this point!
I ordered a brunch classic: buttermilk pancakes ($11.50). At least I assumed they were buttermilk because the menu didn’t specify…either way, they were thick and fluffy. That’s the way I like my pancakes, so I really enjoyed my stack. I also had it with a side of Home Fries ($6.75). The potatoes were perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside.
This was such a hearty, traditional American breakfast—a great way to start the day, if you ask me. Andrews also has good deals on breakfast combos, so come with someone else and get a bunch of plates to share!
📍463 7th Ave New York, NY 10018
9. Bluestone Lane
Yes, I put yet another coffee chain on this list… but hear me out: Bluestone Lane also has smoothies! So, I wouldn’t write it off as just a coffee chain.
I tried their Bondi Blue Smoothie by REEF ($11.95). They describe it as a “tropical smoothie inspired by the Aussie coast.” It has banana, mango, blueberries, almond milk, vegan cream, protein powder, and blue spirulina. I’ve never had an Erewhon smoothie, so I can’t really compare the two (but this Bluestone Lane one is what I assume it would taste like for like half the price!). It tasted like a vacation—especially with the banana and mango together. I loved the addition of the protein powder because it kept me fuller for longer.
I also got their Avocado Smash ($15.50), which was an avocado toast with feta cheese and heirloom tomatoes. The tomatoes were so fresh and juicy! I’ve had a lot of avocado toasts over the years and I have to say, this was a solid piece of toast.
Bluestone Lane is pretty consistent throughout all its locations. If you’re looking for a quick Aussie brekkie, this is the place to go to!
📍435 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001
10. Bunny&Bro Coffee
There’s something about a cute coffee shop that really gets me going. Bunny&Bro is newly opened, serving up delicious drinks and cozy vibes! The cafe has a lot of seating and gets a lot of light that brightens up the whole space.
I ordered the Bunny London Fog ($6.75) that was made of earl grey tea, espresso, and milk. The flavor of the floral earl grey and coffee together was so good. I like them both separately, but I never thought to combine them. My friend got the Bro Einspanner Latte ($7.95). It was a latte topped with a thick cream and cocoa powder. The cream reminded me of the cheese foam that you can get on top of boba drinks.
They have a few croissants that you can get if you want a light bite. I was eyeing the Hummus Roasted Tomato Croissant ($6.45), but I didn’t end up getting it because I just had a meal before. This gives me a reason to come back…
Bunny&Bro Coffee is also pet-friendly—you can stop by for a quick coffee and pastry while on your morning walk with your dog! Maybe you can even try asking for a puppuccino!

[…] Black Fox Coffee Co. sits on Pine Street in the 70 Pine apartment complex. I heard about this place from a friend and had to try because she raved about their drinks. They had some really fun latte flavors like Rose Water Mocha ($8.50), Honey Blossom ($7.50), and Sesame Chai ($7.50). Those all sounded so good to me, but my friend recommended I get their Iced Matcha ($6.50). She said that it was one of the best matchas she’s had from a place that does not specialize in matcha. […]
