Check out the 5 most lovely Date Ideas in Seoul!
Seoul is full of couples — truly, you’ll see young people coupled up everywhere! There’s a whole culture of planning out whole “date courses (routes)” for couples.

As a Korean who grew up Seoul, I’m excited to share some of my tried and true love-inducing date ideas in Seoul for couples!

Romantic date ideas in Seoul
1. Walk through the Hanoks & Shop at Seochon
Seoul is a very trendy place, and Seochon is the neighborhood for young couples right now.
Walk through the beautiful traditional hanok houses in Seochon Hanok Village.
Most Korean couples, though, are probably just shopping about the regular streets, which are full of hanok-inspired architecture.
There’s so many cafes, eateries and gift shops to pick from. Right now, stationary shops are hot: think journals, decorative tapes, and pens. Small gift shops are also really busy, those that sell cute keychains, magnets and mugs.
One of the hottest gift shops right now with just those items is One More Bag. Unlike the name of the shop suggests, there’s more than just bags at this store.
If you’re feeling peckish, stop by for fresh, seriously delicious egg tarts at Tongin Sweet, which has been frequented by celebrities and has been on TV.

2. Trot along the stone walkway at Deoksugung Palace & View Art

Get a little history, a lovely walk and some quality art in at Deoksugung Palace, where the Korean royalty lived from the Joseon Dynasty up until the 1900’s.
I would recommend you walk along the lovely 0.5 mile (900m) stonewall pathway around the palace, then visit the palace proper.

Deoksugung Palace is actually quite huge, and it is a beautiful, historically meaningful site. Visiting Deoksugung only costs 1,000 won (~0.75 USD) per adult, making it a great cheap date idea in Seoul.

I would highly recommend checking out the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at Deoksugung. There have been some truly amazing exhibitions of legendary Korean modern artists. The ticket price depends on the exhibition, but I paid only 3,000 won (~2.24 USD) per adult last time.
3. Vibe out at the Cheongsudang hanok cafe

Cheongsudang is the most beautiful cafe I have been to in Korea (and I’ve been to quite a few!). It’s a traditional hanok-style cafe, and there’s rich and creamy drinks and desserts.

Cheongsudang is best known for the picturesque stone bridge that forms its entrance.
There’s little ponds and greenery inside and around the cafe. I felt like I was at a peaceful spa!

I loved the strawberry soufflé, which came baked inside a stone tray (takes 20 min of prep time, which flew by fast at the beautiful cafe) and I love the sweet and tangy strawberry sauce that came with it on the side. The strawberry soufflé was 18,800 won (~14 USD).

Cheongsudang Bakery is bigger than it seems; there’s a whole second area at the back, which has traditional sit-down seating with cushions on the floor.

4. Chill at the Hidden Library at Inwangsan Mountain
Discover this hidden gem of a library at Inwangsan Mountain! Take a 20 min hike up Inwangsan Mountain to discover a modern, sunlight filled library where you can rest and soak in the views.
It’s not a particularly strenuous or rugged hike, but rather more of a hilly walk with stairs (it’s a good idea to wear sneakers!).
Start your journey by taking the subway to Gyeongbokgung Palace. Then catch the mini bus and get off at the last stop, which is Suseongdong Valley, where you’ll begin your hike.
The visit to the Inwangsan Mountain library is free, making this a great cheap date idea in Seoul!
The Inwangsan Mountain library is free to visit.
5. Create custom keychains & take photobooth photos at Ikseon-dong

Another super cute neighborhood for going on dates is Ikseon-dong, which is also full of hanok-inspired architecture. You’ll find tons of cute custom keychain shops, cheap jewelry, and photobooth studios designed for couples at Ikseon-dong.
Check out one of the many photobooth studios in Ikseon-dong. Elaborate photobooths used to be hot (you could draw on top of the photos using their touchscreens), but these days, retro photobooths are back in. They’re called “inseng nehcut” in Korean, which roughly translates to “four photos of a lifetime.”
These retro photobooth studios are usually manless and offer wigs, sunglasses, hats and other fun gear to spice up your photos. Don’t worry about cash; all the modern machines take credit cards.
Many of the photobooth studios are now equipped with professional quality cameras and even soft lighting, so you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how nice the photos turn out.
Another major trend these days is creating custom keychains.
There’s so many different base lanyards to choose from to create your own keychain or luggage tag.
After picking your base lanyard, you can pick out cute press-on patches, from individual letters to characters.

If you want to go the traditional route, there are tons of embroidery places in Itaewon, which started the trend of creating custom luggage and bag tags. It’s pretty common at schools to create custom sports team or school emblem-branded tags.

I loved my cute tags from Gug-Ilsa in Itaewon!
