I spotted a long patterned dress for $228, a white dress shirt for $170, and a pink sweater for $280.
Way Forward: Handmade, custom embroidable shirts & sweaters

Way Forward has funky yet simple shirts & sweaters with the cutest embroidery. The little embroidered designs include a smol baby chick, and words like New York City.
The embroidered t-shirts are $135. All designs are handmade by 3 embroiders in Brooklyn.

Wyld Blue: Best neutral basics
Wyld Blue has a beautiful curation of white, beige and black neutral womenswear, including lots of simple but pretty dresses. They offer both new and vintage items.
Here, you’ll find some of the best West Village shopping for clothes in neutral tones.
Finds include a $380 Aiden Knit cardigan, $640 Ronny Kobo Agatha bodysuit, $680 Cult Gaia dress and a vintage Chanel bodysuit for $2,800!
The decor of the shop looks and feels like a luxurious, minimalist home, complete with curved wooden furniture, and gold accents against a white backdrop.
There’s tons of gold jewelry that’s beautifully displayed; rings ranged from $35 to $200+.
Anine Bing: Work & drinks friendly basics

Anine Bing has classy basics that you can wear to work, drinks and brunch. It’s rare to find one place with all the workplace and daily basics, and Anine Bing is just that.
I found $170 long jeans, $350 tan turtleneck sweater, $350 slip dress, and a $800 cashmere blend black coat.
Best West Village Vintage Shops
Madame Matovu: Authentic statement vintage pieces

Madame Matovu has an excellent selection of authentic vintage pieces. There’s beautiful statement pieces, unlike what I’ve ever seen before, like a bright blue sweater embedded with pearls.
Along with clothing, there is also jewelry and a variety of accessories.

Madame Matovu has been in business for over 15 years. It’s no wonder, with the truly unique and memorable selection of vintage pieces!
Housing Works Thrift Shops: Quality thrifts for a great cause

Housing Works operates a series of thrift shops, which support the non profit’s advocacy and service work for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The West Village locations have good quality secondhand items at a reasonable price. There is a large men’s selection.
There are a lot of practical clothes for every day wear, including casual and office-appropriate clothing.

Finds include a $15 men’s Banana Republic sweater, and a fun $75 red ruffle dress by Tadashi Shoji.
In addition, Housing Works also has a wide selection of plates and secondhand books as well.

Best Jewelry in the West Village
Roseate: Environmentally & socially responsible pearls & jewelry

Roseate is a socially responsible NYC jewelry brand with a stunning collection of pearl pieces. The pearls are sourced from sustainable farms in Australia (Paspaley) and Tahiti (Kamoka Pearls).
I loved that Roseate also uses lab-grown diamonds, which are created by Lightbox in Oregon.

Roseate’s wand necklaces support 3 different organizations. A whole 20% of the purchase price goes toward organizations that support causes like restoring oyster reefs in the New York Harbor.
The founder, Pam, is a jewelry veteran with 25 years of experience at Tiffany’s. She and Sean, who I met in store, were both super friendly and welcoming!
Diana Broussard: Bold and practical designer jewelry

Diana Broussard has bold statement jewelry as well as pieces that can be worn every day. They have been in the West Village for 15 years.
I got a statement necklace that was a chain of big hearts for $50. It was a great price for the lovely design!
I saw a beautiful gold plated necklace with two large chains in the middle. It was light because it was made of resin, which was then plated.
There were also several beautiful gemstone rings.
I loved their digital artwork pieces. They had these necklaces and a bag with screens, which played videos with audio. You can also connect to those pieces and upload your very own pieces!
The great thing about buying from local designers is that you can come back for repairs or changes. I was interested in eventually wearing my necklace as a bag strap, and was glad when the store assistant told me that I could come back to add a hook to the end of the necklace!
Best Home Goods Shops in the West Village
Big Night: Colorful and funky home goods

Big Night has a funky and colorful selection of home goods. They had a cute selection of glassware, cutting boards, cutlery and more.
I spotted a colorful glass vase for $48 and a small cutting board for $40.

The shop is structured like an apartment, and has a staged kitchen, pantry and bath area that was a fun, experiential touch.

LAHN Living: Modern & eclectic home goods by female-led and sustainable brands

LAHN Living has a small but aesthetically pleasing selection of home goods and decor. There were curvy and interestly shaped candles and candle holders, plenty of glassware, linen napkins among other items.
LAHN Living has a sister clothing store named LAHN. Both showcase brands that are led by women or promote sustainability!

I spotted a glass candlestick holder for $60, and beautiful woven tapestry blankets for $185.

Greenwich Letterpress: Trendy gift shop

When you enter Greenwich Letterpress, the bubblegum pink walls will catch your eye! Greenwich Letterpress has a ton of cute cards, which were around $6 each, along with other gift packing items, like tapes and wrapping paper.

I loved their funky gift items, like their everything bagel candle and the various pasta-shaped candles.

Greenwich Letterpress also creates amazing custom wedding invitations. There’s a binder with many different examples of fonts and colors.

Goods for the Study: Best for notebooks and pens
Find your next journal at Goods for the Study. They have a huge selection of notebooks, including Moleskine notebooks and others with pretty designs.
You’ll find all kinds of pens, including simple ball point pens, colorful markets and hobbyist fountain pens. I saw Stabilo pen markers for $1.95 each, and Kaweco short fountain pens for $27.
This stationary store also sports a wide selection of cards as well.
Best Bookstores in the West Village
Three Lives Bookstore: Best Book Selection & Variety

Three Lives has been operating since 1978, and is one of the best and most loved bookstores in all of NYC.
The Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Michael Cunningham called Three Lives “One of the greatest bookstores on the face of the Earth. Every single person who works there is incredibly knowledgeable and well read and full of soul” (Source: Three Lives Website).

After being greeted by the charming, English-inspired storefront, enter to find a magical, masterfully curated selection of books of all kinds, from historical, fiction, cooking to kids books.
There’s truly something for everyone here. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, and you’ll often find regulars chatting with them!

Do Not Feed Alligators: Trendy & Minimalist Coffee & Tea Shop

Do Not Feed Alligators is just as memorable as its name! This coffee and tea shop has an excellent selection of drinks and pour overs, and has a satisfyingly minimalist interior that gets a lots of sunlight.

Because no laptops are allowed, the vibes are immaculate, and it’s a great place to catch up with friends at a trendy and classically West Village cafe.
DNFA doubles as an art gallery and a wine bar in the evenings. Check out the spacious outdoors, which is accessible through the back of the coffee shop.
“it’s named after my first monograph as a photographer, I published it in 2018 and when I was looking for a name for my coffee shop it was right there waiting to be used. As far as the monograph goes it takes a deeper meaning as a metaphor for youth.”
David Shama, Founder of Do Not Feed Alligators, in an email to Your Local’s Guide

Rosecrans is the perfect place for a cozy catchup. There is an extensive flower shop at the entrance, as well as plants for sale that dot the shop. At the back of Rosecrans is a coffee bar.

There is plenty of seating for a NYC cafe.

Paquita: Moody tea shop with retro vibes
Paquita is a moody tea shop with an extensive drink selection and some serious moody, historic vibes. It’s a great place for a date.
The tea shop is narrow and on the smaller side, but I love how they used the wall space to display tea containers. They also sell pottery and tea cups.
Indoor seating is limited. There is cozy outdoor seating in a wooden space.
